Introducing Drawing Break!
Draw with me on May 29!
People ask me about my sketchbook habit a lot. How do you do it? What do you put in it? What do you draw when you have no clue what to draw? Well, I thought I’d share all of that in monthly1 drawing sessions.
If you want to start filling up sketchbooks or you want some fun (and usually silly) games to give your creativity a little boost, then maybe you might want to join me!
As I mentioned last week, the first session will be May 29th and will be open to everyone, in June, it will become a perk for paid subscribers.

I LOVE attending drawing sessions with other artists, and I want to try my hand at running one of my own.
I want them to be little bite size sessions. So the drawing exercises will be 30 minutes and then you can pop off and get on with your day OR you can stay for another 30 minutes and share what you did, ask questions about the exercise or about sketchbooks or picture books or whatever is on your mind. Don’t feel like drawing but have some questions to ask? Just pop on at 12:30 EST for the Q&A portion.
I’m not sure if this format will work. Maybe 30 minutes is too little? Maybe no one has questions to ask or wants to share. That’s ok. This is (yet another) experiment, so we’ll play it by ear and adjust as necessary.
I’ll try to announce the theme of the month’s session ahead of time, but generally, I’m going to try to cycle through exercises that are focused on characters, environments, color and materials.
Currently2 I am not planning on recording the sessions, I like that they will be ephemeral. But, don’t fear, if you can’t make the sessions, I will be posting a write-up of the session with the reference and exercise instructions after the sessions.
As I mentioned last week, this first session will be open to everyone! Subsequent sessions will be for paid subscribers, but I wanted to start out with something for everyone.
The first session will involve drawing animals, but with a little twist.

Originally I was going to do weekly drawing sessions, but then I panicked about that kind of consistency and so we’re going to start out with monthly sessions, and if that’s going well we’ll add more!
This may change if it proves difficult for people to attend live and would prefer a recording over a written explanation.

I missed May! Hope to make June!!
